Yakima, Washington – Boy Suffers Minor Injuries after Getting Struck by Truck

Yakima, Washington (October 17, 2019) – An eleven year-old boy sustained minor injuries after getting struck by a truck on the intersection of West Pierce Street and South 16th Avenue on Thursday afternoon. The victim, identified as Sterling Newbrough, sustained road rash as well as a sprained ankle. No other injuries were reported in the incident.

According to the report, Newbrough crossed the intersection after a stopped driver signaled him to walk. However, the boy was struck by a truck that didn’t see him. Fortunately, Newbrough was able to get to the sidewalk despite his injuries. According to the report the area lacked traffic or crosswalk devices, which may have contributed to the accident.

Lately, distractions also cause accidents not only for drivers, but also pedestrians, specifically those who are using their phones while crossing the road. Avoiding accidents not only prevents loss, damage, injuries and death to one’s self, but also on other people in the surroundings.
