Yakima County Fire employee killed in scooter-pickup collision

NACHES, WA – An employee of Yakima County Fire District #3 died while riding a motorized scooter that was struck by a pickup truck last Thursday.

YakTriNews reports that the victim, Scott “Scooter” Lounsbury, turned into the path of an oncoming pickup truck at the intersection of Sinclair Avenue and East 2nd Street in Naches. The pickup was being driven by a city employee.

Lounsbury later died from his injuries at Memorial Hospital.

Lounsbury was the staff photographer and support crew member for the Yakima County Fire District #3 crew. He was described as a “community icon.”
