MASON COUNTY, WA — A Washington State Patrol trooper was injured Friday morning of July 16 when her patrol car was struck by a speeding vehicle on state Highway 3 near Grapeview, according to The Leader.

The incident occurred in the southbound lanes of SR-3 west of Grapeview shortly before noon.

Trooper Chelsea Hodgson, a WSP public information officer serving District 8, was heading southbound in a 2017 Ford Explorer with both emergency lights and sirens on. A 37-year-old Shelton woman driving a 2007 Chevrolet was rounding a curve and struck the trooper’s car as it approached.

The Shelton woman appeared to have lost control of her vehicle after braking upon the WSP car’s approach, sending the car into oncoming traffic.

Trooper Hodgson was able to drive herself to Silverdale’s St. Michael Medical Center with minor injuries.

The Shelton woman was not reported injured and faced charges for speeding.

The WSP Ford Explorer was totaled as a result of the accident.
