KING COUNTY, WA — A woman was killed Monday afternoon after an acquaintance appeared to accidentally reverse a car in the parking lot of Salt House Church in Kirkland, according to City of Kirkland.

Kirkland police said the crash happened at 11920 Northeast 80th Street at around 12:30 p.m.

A female driver and two other female passengers, residents of a neighboring shelter, had just returned from running errands. The driver stopped the vehicle in a temporary location in the parking lot as the other two women exited. One of the women went to the vehicle’s rear to pick up items when the driver abruptly reversed the car, running over the victim and crashing into the church building.

The victim died from her injuries.

The driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, later reporting she had accidentally left her car in reverse as she attempted to drive away.

Kirkland Police’s Fatal Investigation Team was investigating the crash as of Tuesday.
