WHATCOM COUNTY, WA — Two Whatcom County workers were seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when they were struck by a suspected DUI driver driving the wrong way in Bellingham, according to KOMO News.

Washington State Patrol troopers, fire responders and medics were dispatched to the significant crash in the 3000 block of Lummi Shore Road at approximately 2:30 p.m.

A Toyota driven by a 28-year-old man was traveling south in the northbound lane of Lummi Shore Road when it drifted past the centerline, struck a guardrail and continued running along 250 feet of the guardrail. The vehicle then crashed into two workers who were trimming grass on the shoulder before ramming into a parked Whatcom County truck.

The two workers, aged 19 and 20, were transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham with serious injuries.

Two children aged 5 and 10 who were passengers in the causing SUV were not reported injured.

The at-fault driver was treated for minor injuries at the crash site and was placed under arrest for vehicular assault and DUI.
