Seattle, Washington – Incident Causes Car to Crash Into Restaurant

Seattle, Washington (June 15, 2019) – A shooting incident on 7th Avenue and Pike Street led to a report of a car crashing into a restaurant at 7th Avenue and Union Street. It appeared that people within the crashed car had been shooting at pedestrian on the street, which hit and injured one man. The injured person has been brought to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. The suspects however, fled the scene, though one man has been arrested and booked into jail. The incident is under investigation.

While this particular incident has a criminal element, accidents of more common causes can also have the same destructive results. From data gathered on car crashes into buildings, the cause was usually operator error or pedal error. For operator errors, drivers usually accelerated or were at high speeds, or were in the wrong gear. Pedal errors similar to the situation in this case, means that drivers stepped on the gas when they meant to step on the brake. Because of the crash site, the threat of injuries applies not only to the occupants of the car but also people inside the building. Damage can also be done to either the car or the struck building.
