Scooter rider killed in Beach Drive in Seattle identified

SEATTLE, WA – Authorities identified the scooter rider fatally struck by a driver on Beach Drive on Friday as a retired Kirkland Fire Department Captain.

According to local news, the 61-year-old man was riding northbound a motorized scooter on Beach Drive SW when he was struck in the 4500 block by a driver in an Acura sedan making a U-turn at about 3:20 p.m.

The victim attempted to serve around the car but was unable to avoid a crash.

Despite good Samaritans’ life-saving efforts, when authorities arrived they pronounced the man died at the scene. He was identified as Keith Adams, who served Kirkland as a firefighter for 37 years.

The driver remained on the scene and authorities confirmed that alcohol did not factor as a cause. It remains unclear whether the driver will be cited.
