Motorist struck, killed on I-5 in Tacoma as he changed tire

TACOMA, WA – A motorist was struck and killed as he changed a tire alongside the I-5 roadway in Tacoma this morning, KIR0 7 reports.
The man was on the right shoulder of the interstate near South 38th Street when he was hit at about 9:20 a.m. on Monday, May 10. The Washington State Patrol pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The driver who hit the man has been placed under arrest on suspicion of vehicular homicide. She told officers that she was distracted by her phone at the time of the collision.
The right two lanes were blocked while investigations were conducted.
