GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY, WA — A 25-year-old Seattle resident was rushed to a hospital Saturday after another driver fell asleep at the wheel on state Route 109 near Aberdeen, reports The Olympian.
The crash took place on a span of SR-109 between the areas of Aberdeen and Ocean Shores at about 1:30 p.m.
Washington State Troopers said a 53-year-old Elma man was driving south on SR-109 when he drifted to sleep, causing his vehicle to run off the road. He then overcorrected his steering, struck a dirt embankment, and re-entered the roadway, where he hit the victim’s vehicle head-on.
The victim was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, where their condition has not been shared.
The event left the area closed for around four hours as authorities worked to clear the scene.
Troopers said the causing driver may face a charge of second-degree negligent driving.
