SEATTLE, WA – Icy conditions on I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass led to multiple spinouts and other accidents, which closed the interstate to traffic in both directions yesterday afternoon.

KIRO reports that conditions at the pass deteriorated rapidly starting at about 2:45 p.m., as rain gave way to snow flurries and whiteouts. Multiple vehicles spun out, and snow chains broke off truck tires. An unspecified number of truck drivers were fined $500 for not having chains.

Forecasts predicted between four and nine inches of snow in the area.

It is unclear whether any of the spinouts led to injuries. We will update this blog if that information becomes available,
