Everett, Washington (August 17, 2019) – One person was reported to have died and another was injured when a truck crashed in the vicinity of Boeing Recreation Center at 36th Avenue West. The truck driver suffered a cardiac arrest while getting into his vehicle, causing him to push the gas pedal. The vehicle struck parked cars, a pole and a chain link fence. Crews attempted CPR on the truck driver, but Everett Fire reported that he died on the scene. Debris from the broken fence also hit a pedestrian, who sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

The truck driver was a long-time volunteer who had been transporting food for the Special Olympics. His name has not been released out of respect for his family. The accident happened away from competition, and the events were reported to have gone on as planned.

About Vehicle Accidents

We offer our sympathies and compassion for the friends and loved ones of the victims. Unfortunately, this is not the only case of accident involving an injury of fatality. In 2017, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)  have reported a total of 120, 993 car accidents. Of those accidents, 525 were fatal and 34, 311 were possible or suspected of injuries. Vehicle accidents have a variety of causes ranging from driver error to road conditions, and it also includes chronic medical conditions. Chronic medical conditions include epilepsy, diabetes, alcoholism and heart diseases. While alcohol ingestion is related to many cases of car accidents, the other named conditions contribute to a fairly small amount of car accidents, estimated to be around five to ten percent in an early study. In any case, all drivers should make sure they are in good health and not impeded by any health condition that can affect judgement so as to be safe in the streets. We urge all drivers to be careful while behind the wheel. When in a location where hazards such as poor illumination, rough roads or construction materials are present, be especially cautious. By doing this, we can ensure our safety as well as the safety of others in the nearby area.
