SEATTLE, WA — A 40-year-old man was seriously injured Monday night after crashing his car during a high-speed police chase in south Seattle, reports KOMO News.

The accident occurred in the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way shortly after 9:40 p.m.

Authorities say officers tried to pull a white BMW over for a minor traffic violation but the driver failed to stop, resulting in a pursuit. The suspect driver continued northbound before his vehicle slammed into a tree.

The impact of the collision left the vehicle so mangled that the driver had to be extricated from the wreck. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to Harborview Medical Center.

At least two nearby homes and one unoccupied vehicle were hit with debris from the crash, but no other injuries were reported.

According to police, the driver was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant for other unrelated crimes. He now faces at least two new charges, including trying to elude police.
