Crews respond to 2-alarm fire near Seattle Center

SEATTLE, WA — Fire crews responded to a two-alarm fire Tuesday afternoon at a vacant building near Seattle Center, according to King 5.

The Seattle Fire Department was on the scene around 4:00 p.m. in the 500 block of Harrison Street after getting calls about heavy smoke.

Out of concern for the building’s structural stability, crews maintained a defensive position on the large fire for the majority of the evening.

Thermal imaging used to to check the building determined that no one was inside the building. No injuries have been reported at this time.

The fire was under control by Tuesday and response units were reduced by 7:00 p.m.

By Wednesday, crews demolished the remains of the still-smoldering building.

People living in the Seattle Center area were advised by officials to close windows to prevent smoke inhalation.

An investigation into the cause of fire is still ongoing, but authorities say transient activity may have played a role.
