PORT ANGELES, WA – The Coast Guard rescued three people from a yacht that caught fire in Puget Sound on Tuesday evening, KOMO News reports.
A fire broke out in the 48-foot vessel’s engine room while it was about a half mile from shore, and five miles east of Port Angeles. The three men on board at the time were unable to combat, and radioed the Coast Guard for help at 6 p.m.
The Coast Guard deployed a 45-foot rescue vessel and a helicopter to the scene. They pulled the three men aboard, but were unable to put out the fire in time to save the boat, which sank a short time later.
