SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — A motorcyclist in his 20s died early Monday after crashing into a car and falling into the Snohomish River in Everett, reports KIRO 7 News.

The accident took place on State Route 529 northbound running over the Snohomish River Bridge at around 1:30 a.m.

An investigation indicates the motorcyclist was speeding when he struck the rear bumper of a Nissan Xterra, sending the rider off the bike, over the guardrail, and down into the river.

Everett police and firefighters dispatched two marine operations boats into the river in search of the rider. He was soon pulled aboard a boat, where fire crews administered life-saving measures to the victim.

Authorities confirmed the victim later died at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

No occupants in the Nissan were injured in the crash.

An investigation was underway, closing down all northbound lanes on SR-529 until about 5:00 a.m.
