YAKIMA COUNTY, WA — Three young adults died Tuesday night after a DUI driver collided into their vehicle in Yakima, according to KOMO News.

Yakima police responded to the accident on South 48th Avenue near West Nob Hill Boulevard at around 11:18 p.m.

An investigation found that a 20-year-old man was driving a 1994 Ford Escort going northbound at high speed on 48th Street. The driver ran through a red light at the intersection and struck a 2007 Mitsubishi Galant going eastbound.

Two male passengers in the Mitsubishi, aged 23 and 19, were killed in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene. A 20-year-old female passenger in the Mitsubishi was transported to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

A 5-year-old passenger in the Mitsubishi was transported to Yakima Valley Memorial and then to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries. She has since been listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Mitsubishi sustained minor injuries and has since been discharged from a hospital.

The causing driver of the Escort was hospitalized with severe injuries, according to police.

Authorities said due to speed and use of intoxicants at the time of the crash, the suspect will be charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
