Serious injuries reported in motorcycle vs. vehicle collision on SR-162 near Orting

PIERCE COUNTY, WA – Troopers with the Washington State Patrol responded to a serious injury motorcycle vs. vehicle collision on SR-162 near Orting on Sunday night.
According to a tweet by WSP’s District 1 PIO, the crash occurred in the eastbound lane at mile marker 12, just east of Orting, shortly before 4 p.m. Traffic delays were expected.
Troopers and aid on the way to a serious injury collision. East bound lane of SR-162@mp12, just east of Orting is blocked. Motorcycle rider is down after colliding with another vehicle. Will be a delay if you’re heading to South Prairie. I’ll update soon.

Trooper Ryan Burke released images and further details after arriving at the scene. The motorcyclist was trailing slower vehicles and tried to pass the traffic, but ended up side-swiping the vehicle in front of him at a high rate of speed. His bike then careened into a mailbox and was seriously injured.
Folks, this was a scary crash. The rider along with another vehicle attempted to pass slower traffic. The rider was going too fast and side swiped the vehicle in front of him causing him to strike a mailbox. The rider is in surgery and stabilized. Burke stated the rider was transported to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery and was in stable condition.
