SEATTLE, WA – The Seattle Police Department’s Arson and Bomb Squad are investigating seven fires that were set in Seattle’s Rainier Avenue South area last Friday morning, according to Patch.

Seattle Fire confirmed that most of these fires were started in a garbage can, recycling bin, or dumpster, where there would likely be a lot of combustible materials.

One fire on 33rd Avenue South spread to a garage and burned a home.

While officials are investigating, they encourage the public to follow some safety precautions, including:

  • Keep recycling and trash bins at least five feet away from the side of a home or structure, so that fire can less easily jump and spread
  • Test all smoke alarms and be sure to have a working fire extinguisher
  • Clean up litter, weeds, and wastepaper from around a trash bin or building that could catch fire
