SUNNYSIDE, WA – A 14-year-old boy was killed Tuesday when his ATV collided with a pickup truck in Sunnyside. His 12-year-old brother, who was riding in the back of the ATV, suffered life-threatening injuries.

The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office said the brothers failed to stop when they approached Wendell Phillips Road. An 18-year-old driving down Wendell Phillips Road in a Ford pickup truck struck the ATV.

The 14-year-old was killed instantly, as he flew through the windshield and landed on the street, according to YakTri News.

First responders took the victim’s younger brother to Sunnyside Hospital before getting airlifted to Kadlec in the Tri-Cities.

The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this accident, but they do not believe that the pickup truck driver or teenage boys were under the influence.
