JEFFERSON COUNTY, WA — A Washington State Patrol officer who works in commercial vehicle enforcement was struck by stolen truck in Jefferson County, according to King 5.

Officer Alfred Alderson, 55, was in a patrol vehicle while conducting a traffic stop along US 101 by Discovery Bay when the previously-stolen Ford F350 crashed into his vehicle, reports WSP trooper Chelsea Hodgson.

The incident occurred in the southbound lanes a little north of SR 104 interchange.

Both Officer Alderson and the at-fault driver were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. They were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.

The driver of the stolen truck was believed to have been driving under impairment at the time of the crash and is now in custody for suspicion of vehicular assault.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office also said the same driver is wanted for arson.
