Woman dead in accident caused by officer’s medical emergency

SEATTLE, WA – One person died Saturday when an officer with the King County Sheriff’s Department struck another vehicle with his car after suffering an apparent medical episode.

According to KING 5, the accident happened in the Georgetown area on South Doris Street and Airport Way South at around 12:30 p.m., when a Sheriff’s deputy lost control of his vehicle while experiencing a medical emergency. The deputy then collided with a parked vehicle, trapping a woman inside.

The impact pushed the woman’s car into two other vacant vehicles parked nearby.

The woman, who has yet to be publicly identified, died despite being extracted from the wreckage by emergency crews who took life-saving efforts to revive her.

She had reportedly been waiting inside the vehicle for a loved one inside a store when the crash happened.

The deputy, who is believed to have suffered either a stroke or a heart attack, was taken to the hospital in stable condition. His identity has not been made public.

The accident is under investigation by the Seattle Police Department.
