EVERETT, WA – The Everett Fire Department announced that the fire that burned down an under-construction apartment complex on July 16 was likely not arson, according to their statement.

The fire, which started just before 6 p.m. on July 16, burned down the Waterfront Place Apartments at 16th Street and Rucker Avenue, overlooking Possession Sound. The complex was still under construction.

The Everett Fire Department reported that the estimated cost of damages is between $25-30 million.

The sheer size of the fire required additional help from ATF and the Washington State Patrol Crime Laboratory Division, as well as equipment from the apartment complex’s construction company, Graham.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while attempting to control the flames but were treated and released from the hospital that same night.

The fire is still under investigation, but at this time, officials do not believe any criminal activity was a factor in the fire’s origin.
