KENT, WA — A teenage boy was rescued Tuesday evening after almost drowning in Lake Meridian in Kent, according to KOMO News.

Medics with Valley Regional Fire Authority arrived at the lake off Kent-Kangley Road on Kent’s East Hill at around 7:40 p.m. Prior to their arrival, witnesses had managed to pull the boy from the water and performed CPR. Medics continued the work and rushed the victim to a hospital.

The condition of the boy, believed to be fourteen or fifteen years old, has been disclosed.

No conclusive reports have been made about the cause of the incident, but emergency responders said shock is a common cause of drownings despite the region’s recent spike in temperatures.

Officials said the city of Kent had cancelled Lake Meridian’s lifeguard program as recently as last week due to a scarcity of qualified applicants.
