Request Free ConsultationKING COUNTY, WA — Two drivers were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after a high-speed head-on collision on State Route 202 near Redmond, reports Washington State Patrol.
Washington State Patrol responded to the scene on SR-202 just east of 238th Avenue Northeast shortly after 4:00 p.m.
An investigation by WSP indicates a 2003 Chevy Tahoe was traveling in the far left lane of the westbound freeway at the same time a 2006 Hyundai was traveling in the far left lane of the eastbound freeway. The driver of the Tahoe, a 16-year-old boy, was speeding and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer past the centerline and enter the eastbound lanes, where he collided with the Hyundai Genesis. The Tahoe came to a stop on the eastbound shoulder as the Hyundai arrived at rest in the main travel lanes of the eastbound freeway.
The teen driver and the driver of the Hyundai, a 46-year-old woman, both suffered undisclosed injuries and were taken to Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue.
According to WSP, high speed was a factor in the accident and the teen has since been charged with vehicular assault.
Both the Tahoe and the Hyundai Genesis sustained total damages and had to be towed from the scene.
