KENT, WA – A suspected burglar was killed when he crashed his vehicle into a tree while fleeing a traffic stop in Kent early this morning, according to KIRO 7 News.

The incident began in the 23800 block of 108th Avenue just after midnight, when a 25-year-old man from Des Moines allegedly attempted to rob a store at gunpoint. He fled the scene when other people entered the store.

An officer attempted to stop a driver leaving a parking lot at a high rate of speed, but the vehicle sped away from the scene.

The driver later went off the side of the roadway before colliding with a tree.

The suspect, who has yet to be publicly identified, was ejected during the crash. Police attempted resuscitative measures on the man, but nevertheless, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The description of the victim matches that of a man who robbed a store an hour before the initial incident.

Authorities used security footage to match the driver to the suspected robber.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
