Snoqualmie Pass reopens following avalanche control work

SNOQUALMIE PASS, WA – Snoqualmie Pass reopened yesterday after being closed for several hours as WSDOT crews conducted avalanche control work, KOMO reports.

The work was necessitated by heavy snows last month, which was Snoqualmie Pass’s snowiest February in 20 years. The Department of Transportation occasionally has to close the area so they can detonate snow drifts, causing minor avalanches before they can become massive ones.

The area is once again open, and as the weather continues to warm, fewer closures should be necessary. As always, we will continue to monitor the situation in the area, and will update this blog should another closure occur.
