Snohomish, Washington – Car Crashes Into Construction Site After Police Chase

Snohomish, Washington (May 15, 2019) – A car crashed into a construction site west of 88th Street Southeast in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Fortunately, none of the police and suspects involved or construction workers that were in the area were reported to be injured.

The incident started around 2 a.m when the suspects crashed into a Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputy patrol car. They fled the scene and led the police on a chase through Highway 2, but the suspects eventually crashed into a construction site at 99th Street Southeast. The driver and passenger fled on foot, but were later captured through the use of a drone and a police dog.

The incident here is due to a criminal element, but one should still remember  general safety when driving on the road. From data gathered on car crashes into buildings, the cause was usually operator error or pedal error. For operator errors, drivers usually accelerated or were at high speeds, or were in the wrong gear. Pedal errors similar to the situation in this case, means that drivers stepped on the gas when they meant to step on the brake. Other, smaller factors for crashing into buildings are situation-based, such as driving under influence, traffic accidents, weather conditions or medical emergencies. A very small percentage are for people who intentionally ram buildings to commit theft. From these causes, lack of control is a common feature.

Because of the crash site, the threat of injuries applies not only to the occupants of the car but also people inside the building. Damage can also be done to either the car or the struck building.
