Seattle, Washington – Fire in Homeless Camp Blocks Road

Seattle, Washington (May 28, 2019) – A fire broke out in a homeless camp in the area of South Dearborn Street and 12th Avenue South on Monday afternoon. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries from the incident.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 2 p.m.  There were reports of fire and smoke from the encampment, and three tents were destroyed by the fire. However, the blaze was contained by 3 p.m. The fire caused South Dearborn Street to be temporarily blocked.

The cause of the fire is unknown at the time of writing.

Finally, before leaving an area where fire was used, one must ensure that any fires must be extinguished completely. Preventing brush fires from happening is everyone’s responsibility, and careful use of fire can ensure the safety of not only one’s self, but hundreds of others.
