Puyallup, Washington – Fire Causes Damage in Shopping Center

Puyallup, Washington (September 24, 2019) – A fire broke out at the Valley Plaza Shopping Center at the 1400 block of East Main Avenue on Tuesday night. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, and the fire was contained to two businesses. However, heavy smoke and water damage was found in neighboring businesses.

Central Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to the scene near 10 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found fire in a dry cleaning business. The blaze was later contained to the dry cleaning business and a shoe repair business. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

It is fortunate that no one was injured in this particular case, and the firefighters are to be commended for their response. Like any other structure, commercial buildings must be checked for fire safety. Most if not all the steps in fire safety involve securing the area of one’s business or residence. It is also important to make sure that possible combustible materials are discarded properly or at the very least kept away from buildings. They also urge owners of buildings to review fire safety and make sure that an escape plan is formulated in case of fire.
