Pedestrian severely hurt after being struck by hit-and-run driver near Sam Smith Park

The accident occurred at about 7:50 p.m. near Sam Smith Park, located near the intersection of S Massachusetts Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way, when a pedestrian was struck by a driver who then fled the scene.
The victim, who has yet to be publicly identified, sustained severe injuries in the crash.
Authorities have not yet provided a description of the driver or their vehicle.
Multiple lanes of roadway in the area were closed for the investigation of the accident.
Detectives are investigating the collision at this time.
