Passenger seriously hurt, driver facing charges in crash on Whidbey Island

FREELAND, WA – A passenger was hospitalized, and a driver is facing charges after an alleged drunk-driving crash on Whidbey Island early yesterday morning, according to KOMO News.

The crash happened near Freeland, when the driver of a dark-colored sedan drifted off the side of the roadway, then collided with an unoccupied excavator located nearby on the shoulder.

A passenger in the vehicle was taken to the hospital for the treatment of severe injuries.

The driver was taken into police custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and is facing charges of vehicular assault. They were not immediately reported as injured.
