SKAGIT COUNTY, WA — At least one person was injured Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle wreck involving a semi-truck on the Skagit River Bridge in Mount Vernon, reports FOX 13 Seattle.

The accident occurred on a span of Interstate 5 over the Skagit River and was first reported by Washington State Patrol shortly before noon.

A preliminary investigation shows a semi-truck rear-ended a passenger car, causing it to fold in half. The semi then landed on top of the car.

Emergency crews anticipated serious injuries in the event, but WSP said they believe only minor injuries were sustained. It was not immediately clear how many people were hurt and whether or not they required transport to a hospital.

Lanes in both directions were initially completely closed to traffic, but crews were later able to open both north and southbound lanes.

No other details have been released.
