LYNDEN, WA (WHATCOM COUNTY) – One person is dead and another is injured following a head-on collision involving a semi-truck and an SUV in Whatcom County, reports KOMO News.

The accident happened Friday at 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 545 and Vinup Road.

Early investigative efforts found that the crash occurred when a white semi-truck attempted to avoid another vehicle that was stopped in the roadway while waiting to turn. The semi crossed into the lanes of oncoming traffic and hit a white SUV in a head-on collision.

The driver of the SUV died at the scene of the accident. A passenger in the same vehicle was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the crash.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

The crash caused authorities to close the roadway at the intersection so they could investigate the crash. Motorists were warned to avoid the area, as delays were possible.
