Motorcyclist fatally struck by vehicle near Tacoma’s Excelsior area

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 40-year-old motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle near the Excelsior area in south Tacoma, according to KOMO News.

The collision took place on South 56th Street at the South J Street intersection shortly before 2:37 p.m.

Tacoma police said the motorcyclist was going eastbound on South 56th Street when a westbound vehicle making a left onto South J Street fatally struck the rider.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on scene.

It is unclear whether the causing driver remained behind after the crash or fled the scene.

A span of South 56th Street between South J Street and South Yakima Avenue was closed for many hours as an investigation was conducted.
