SEATTLE, WA – The elderly mother-in-law of the Seattle City Council President was killed in a condo fire that broke out at a complex in West Seattle on Friday evening, according to KOMO News.

The incident occurred at a condo building located near SW Oregon Street and 44th Avenue at about 6:15 p.m.

An off-duty fireman who lived near the scene attempted to rescue 79-year-old Mary Lou Williams, who lived in a unit two stories below the origin of the fire.

Williams was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. There, she later succumbed to her wounds.

Williams is the mother-in-law of M. Lorena Gonzalez, who is the first Latinx person to be elected to the city council.

Authorities continue to investigate the blaze at this time.
