Fire crews respond to two-alarm building fire in Seattle’s U-District

SEATTLE, WA — Fire personnel responded to a two-alarm fire that broke out late Monday morning in a vacant building in the University District of Seattle, according to Fireline Blog.

Firefighters arrived on scene to a working fire at the 5200 block of University Way Northwest at 10:19 a.m.

Crews said an adult male and an adult female managed to evacuate the building and were uninjured.

Efforts were made to subdue the fire as crews began a primary search of the premises four minutes upon arrival. The search was called off when the building’s roof started to collapse.

As the fire grew, the incident was upgraded to a two-alarm fire that had 93 fire personnel called to the scene, involving eleven fire engines, five ladder trucks, and other support units.

Crews were able to control the blaze by 11:02 a.m. and continued attending to hot spots through early afternoon.

No other information or reports of injury have been shared.

An investigation into the incident is under way.
