Ferndale, Washington (May 7, 2019) – A man identified as Devon Hill of Ferndale sustained injuries after he was ejected from his pickup truck while driving on westbound Bay Road on late Tuesday. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. By Wednesday morning, he was said to be in serious condition at  St. Joseph Hospital.

The report by the state patrol lists speeding as the cause of the accident. While Hill was driving on Bay Road about three miles west of Ferndale, he apparently lost control of his vehicle and then over-corrected. The truck rolled over as it crashed, and since Hill wasn’t wearing a seat belt, he was thrown from the vehicle. The truck ended up in a yard and property was said to have been damaged, though there are no details yet on what property was damaged and how much it cost. The truck was said to be a total loss.

About Vehicle Accidents

To be ejected from a car, a strong amount of force or a high speed is probably involved, and neither of those two would be good for the human body. Being thrown from a moving vehicle is bound to lead to many injuries, some of which can be potentially fatal. Injuries from these accidents can include conditions as serious as brain and spinal injury. It is because of this risk that wearing a seat belt is so important while driving.

Unfortunately, this is not the only case that a truck accident has lead to injuries. The state of Washington’s  2015 Annual Collision Data Summary reported that 6,091 commercial vehicle or heavy trucks were involved in collisions in 2015. These crashes included 38 fatal collisions, 85 serious injury collisions, 1,352 minor injury collisions, 4,565 property damage collisions, and 51 unknown injury collisions. Truck accidents can have many causes, and due to the size and road performance of these vehicles, the involvement of one in an accident can lead to heavy losses. Unlike other vehicles, truck accidents can involve many people other than the driver, such as the owner of the truck, the manufacturer of parts, the company which handles it, and so on and so forth. Truck accidents also have a varied list of causes. Weather and road conditions can play a part in it, as was the case in this particular truck accident. There are also of course driver errors, as well as lack of training in operating the truck. Additionally, due to the type of job, both drivers and vehicles can experience fatigue. Whether operating a truck or seeing one on the road, all drivers must follow regulations to avoid incurring damages and injuries to themselves and people around them. If you have been the victim of a truck accident, we extend our sympathy and compassion.
