Elma, Washington (December 19, 2019) – A suspect that had committed a minor traffic violation led a chase involving the Elma Police Department and the Grays Harbors Sheriff’s Office just after midnight on Thursday. During the incident the suspect rammed a police car and Sheriff’s Office car and continued fleeing the scene. The suspect later crashed off-road, and taken into custody. There were no reports of injuries in the incident.

According to the report, a deputy attempted to stop the suspect after she had committed a minor traffic violation on Main Street near 14th Street. The suspect fled and attempted to turn onto Lambert Road, where she lost control of her vehicle, which got struck in a ditch. The deputy attempted to contact the driver while her vehicle was still stuck, but she got it free and rammed the two vehicles before fleeing again. The suspect eventually lost control of her vehicle while turning onto Utility Lane, and her vehicle got stuck again. This time she was taken into custody and has been booked into jail for felony eluding and two counts of assaults for ramming the cars.

While this particular incident contains a criminal element, it is important to note that accidents of other causes can also result in damage or injuries. These injuries are quite dangerous as most of them are head, spine or neck-related, including spinal injuries, brain injuries, paralysis, broken bones, and whiplash. Similarly, victims of side collisions and rollover collisions also suffer may also suffer head and neck injuries, though the risk is lower in these types of collisions. In rollover collisions, the car will come to rest on its side or roof, resulting in a dangerous situation which passengers might need to be extricated from. In side collisions, the greatest risk comes to the passenger on the particular side that received the impact. No matter the type of accident, all crashes are bound to cause a dreadful situation for all involved.
