SEATTLE, WA – According to KING 5 TV, emergency crews contained a “major” commercial natural gas leak at a building near Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood on Friday afternoon.

Authorities were initially alerted around 2:45 p.m. of dangerous levels of natural gas at a building on the 7000 block of Airport Way South.

Power was shut down by Seattle City Light and all nearby buildings were evacuated. Puget Sound Energy (PSE) crews were able to contain the leak and the immediate area was ventilated by Seattle Fire.

An update was given around 5:30 p.m. stating the area had been cleared by firefighters and was safe. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

King County Airport and Boeing Field were temporarily closed while emergency responders worked to secure the leak.

If additional details come to light, this blog will be updated.
