Conway, Washington – One Dead, Five Injured in Multiple-Vehicle Collision at SR 534

Conway, Washington (April 30, 2019) -One person was killed and five people injured in a multiple vehicle-collision at the State Route 534 near the Lake McMurray exit. The five people sustained non-life-threatening injuries. While the accident happened in a construction zone, there were no reports of Washington State Department of Transportation workers getting hurt in the incident. A total of eight vehicles were said to be involved in the crash, including a box truck.

The crash happened around 5 a.m. The truck and a van collided and burst into flames. The driver of the van died in the accident, and another vehicle was said to have rolled over sometime in the pileup. The accident closed down lanes as troopers conducted investigation. The southbound lanes reopened around 11:40 a.m.

Similarly, victims of side collisions and rollover collisions also suffer may also suffer head and neck injuries, though the risk is lower in these types of collisions. In rollover collisions, the car will come to rest on its side or roof, resulting in a dangerous situation which passengers might need to be extricated from. In side collisions, the greatest risk comes to the passenger on the particular side that received the impact.

Multiple vehicle collisions, also called pileups, are among the most dangerous types of crash situations. Pileups have been known to involve up to hundreds of vehicles at once and cause many types of injuries as well as fatalities. The most common cause for pileups seem to be bad weather which either obscure the vision of drivers or cause slippery roads, such as fog, heavy rain and snowstorms. As always, we urge all drivers to be wary while behind the wheel, especially in heavy traffic or unfavorable weather conditions. A single moment of carelessness can lead to an accident with dreadful consequences.
