Collision on I-5 near Martin Way E causes major backup in Lacey

LACEY, WA – A collision involving an overturned box truck on northbound Interstate 5 near Martin Way E caused a major backup of traffic in both directions Wednesday morning.

Collision on I-5 NB at milepost 109.1 near Martin Way E beginning at 7:05 am on December 16, 2020 until further notice. The left lane is blocked.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the accident happened just after 7 a.m. and initially blocked only the left lane. Crews towed the overturned box truck from the scene around 9 a.m., which had been distracting drivers and slowing traffic.

The backup eventually stretched past Pacific Ave but the road was cleared by 9:45 a.m.
