Bremerton, Washington – Drunk Driver Crashes into Emergency Scene

Bremerton, Washington (March 21, 2019) – Bremerton police and emergency personnel narrowly avoided serious injuries when a drunk driver crashed into the patrol car, slamming the gurney and the car of the woman they were responding to. An attendant who was struck by the gurney and narrowly avoided getting pinned between the woman’s vehicle and the gurney was later taken to the Harrison Medical center for evaluation, and the female driver was attended to on the scene. The driver of the car that crashed was found to have a blood-alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit.

The incident began around 8:30 pm. on that Thursday, as a Bremerton Police officer pulled over a car at 11th street near Roosevelt Avenue. The elderly woman driver was experiencing a medical issue, and the police officer parked his patrol car to shield the woman’s car from traffic. Personnel from Bremerton Fire & Rescue and Olympic Ambulance arrived to respond and began to set up a gurney for transfer. While this was happening, the officer noticed a car accelerating in from Naval Avenue, and he warned the other personnel of the impending crash. No one sustained major injuries in the incident.
