FIFE, WA (PIERCE COUNTY) – At least one person was injured Sunday in a multi-vehicle accident caused by icy conditions on Interstate 5 near Fife.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports that the accident happened around 7:30 a.m. when either four or five vehicles were affected by the slippery roadway conditions. At least one person crashed into a Washington State Trooper’s vehicle, and at least one other crashed into a guardrail.

The Trooper was outside of his cruiser to investigate the accident and was not harmed in the crash.

At least one person received neck injuries in the accident.

Multiple lanes of traffic were shut down for about two hours for the cleanup and investigation of the crash.
