At least 1 hurt in possible DWI crash in Whatcom County early Saturday

MARIETTA-ALDERWOOD, WA (WHATCOM COUNTY) – At least one person was injured in a head-on crash early Saturday morning north of Bellingham that may have been caused by an intoxicated driver.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash happened on Bancroft Road and Country Lane at around 12:20 a.m., when two vehicles collided head-on.

At least one person was injured in the crash, though the exact number and condition of victims were not immediately available.

One of the drivers was taken into police custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Police shut down the highway for several hours following the crash. At around 3 a.m., the roadway was reopened.
