Aberdeen, Washington – Five People Injured in House Fire, Three People In Serious Condition

Aberdeen, Washington (July 4, 2019) – Five members in a family of seven were injured after a fire broke in their house on the 900 block of Duffy Street. Two children were seriously injured along with their uncle after the man moved back into the burning house to rescue them. The three were later taken to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment. Two other adults, one of which was the children’s mother, was also burned and treated on scene. No firefighters were reported injured in this incident. The house was reported to have been extensively damaged by the fire.

The fire broke out in the three-story wood-frame structure around 4 a.m. on early Thursday morning. The fire trapped the children, who were in an upstairs bedroom at the time. The fire was believed to have started on the second-story floor, but the cause is yet to be determined.

As for the accidents themselves, the NFPA lists 63 percent involved wiring and related equipment, 74 percent cited some sort of electrical failure or malfunction, and wire or cable insulation was the first item ignited in 32 percent of electrical distribution or lighting equipment home structure fires. From these cases, one must always review and identify potential fire hazards and fix them to avoid damages, injuries or deaths.
