The incident happened on northbound I-5 at Samish Way sometime before 4:54 p.m. on Sunday, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Ricky Oliphant. A man and a woman had nearly finished changing a tire on their trailer when it was struck by a pickup truck that had veered onto the shoulder while attempting to change lanes. The trailer pinwheeled into the man and woman, throwing them into a ditch.
The woman, who suffered a more direct hit, suffered a concussion and lacerations. She is expected to survive.
The man and the pickup’s driver were less seriously hurt, and received treatment at the scene.
Investigations are still underway. However, impairment is not believed to have been a factor at this time.
