RENTON, WA – One person is dead and another is critically injured following a fire at a house in Renton, which authorities say may have been exacerbated by a stockpile of ammunition and explosives on site.

KOMO News reports that fire crews arrived on the scene in the 500 block of Queen Place NE at about 2:15 a.m. today. The first floor of the house was engulfed in flames, trapping several residents on the second floor. Firefighters pulled them down via ladders.

One person was found dead in the second floor.

A neighboring house was also damaged, while another was evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Authorities believe a large stockpile of ammunition and explosives found at the house may have contributed to the blaze, which took eight engine companies, two ladder companies, and three battalion chiefs to subdue.

One resident was killed in the flames, while was critically injured. Two more received minor injuries, and a responding firefighter was treated for a hurt hand.
