West Seattle Bridge construction to begin this week

SEATTLE, WA – Work on the West Seattle Bridge is set to begin this week as construction crews repair cracks discovered in March.

According to the Seattle Department of Transportation, construction crews will add carbon strips and steel cables to support the structure. The work is scheduled to continue through October, according to King 5 News.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, the West Seattle Bridge saw 100,000 vehicles every day, making it Seattle’s most traveled bridge.

Officials say detours will be added to direct traffic around the construction zones, but many are skeptical that the detours can handle the high volume of traffic. Seattle Department of Transportation has not yet confirmed the cost or exact timeline of the repairs, or how long the repairs will last.
