TACOMA, WA – A woman ran a stop sign in Tacoma yesterday, leading to a collision with another vehicle in an accident that led to the life-threatening injuries of both drivers.

According to KOMO News, the accident happened at the intersection of 21st Street and Yakima Avenue yesterday afternoon when the 67-year-old driver of a Kia ran a stop sign.

She was then hit by a Toyota Highlander, operated by a 65-year-old man, which caused her vehicle to be pushed off the roadway. The woman’s vehicle then veered into a tree and trapped her in the wreckage.

Authorities were forced to cut the female victim out of her car in order to rescue her.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.

Authorities have not immediately released the identities of the victims.

Police closed down Yakima Ave for a few hours for the investigation and cleanup of the crash.
