Seattle, Washington (March 14, 2019) – The 52-year old driver of a 001 Yamaha XVS65 was killed when his motorcycle crashed into the freeway’s left shoulder barrier. The accident happened on northbound Interstate 5 near the Mercer Street exit just before 6 am on that Thursday. State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said that speed may have played a role in the crash.

The accident caused a traffic jam that backed up for miles as only one lane was open for about three hours, according to officials. All lanes reopened at 9 am, though it had already impacted morning commute at the time.

About Motorcycle Accidents

Much like any other vehicle accidents, motorcycle accidents can easily come out of lapse of attention and careless maneuvers. Motorcycles colliding with fixed objects like this case only build up a quarter of overall motorcycle accidents. Of these cases, 2/3 of the accidents are linked to driver error. It is important to always observe proper driving and consideration for other vehicles, something which all motorcycle drivers should keep in mind as 3/4 of motorcycle accidents involve another vehicle. This happens since motorcycles have less visibility than other vehicles, motorcycle accidents also tend to happen because other vehicles do not see them in time. While motorcycles are much-depended means of transportation, drivers should consider factors such as speed, number of other vehicles on the road, the road conditions and weather to ensure their safety while out and about. Any mistake can lead to accidents, injuries and damage not only to your person, but on other people as well.
